Gilbert is predeceased by his wife Anne; son, Gilbert Jr. and brothers, Val, Clendon and Sperry.
He was a graduate of The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He served in the US Army Signal Corps, then began his career in insurance. Gilbert and his family lived in Raleigh and Charlotte, where he and Anne were active in supporting The Mint Museum.
Gilbert is survived by his daughter Clinton, her husband Chuck, and their son, Chase; daughter-in-law, Sue Lee and her sons, Val and Simon; and his brother, Lewis Lee.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff at the The Cardinal at North Hills in Raleigh for
their sincere love and care of Mr. Lee.
There will be a private family celebration of Gilbert's life.
