He moved to Buffalo, NY in 1947 to join the Linde Division of Union Carbide Corporation. At Linde, he was a specialist in cryogenics and gas processing. He contributed in the development of commercial production of liquid hydrogen, a rocket fuel used in NASA’s space program. He was the holder of several patents and contributed many articles and papers to the technical literature. He retired from Linde in 1984 after 36 years with the company. He also served as a Lieutenant (jg) in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Kenmore Methodist Church, and the Keystone Class of that church.
After retirement, Charles and his wife, Marjorie moved to Dunedin, Florida and then later to Raleigh, NC to be with family. He belonged to the Asbury United Methodist Church and Joy Generation.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marjorie; son, Robert Baker, of Palm Desert, CA; a daughter, Linda Spencer, of Raleigh; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Baer and by his brother, Robert Baker.
