Carson Hunter Ruth, who was born on September 13, 1993, lost her battle with osteosarcoma on Friday, February 7, 2020. Even though she spent her last two years fighting for her life in hospitals, in ERs, and at home in bed, she focused the majority of her life on happier endeavors, like family gatherings, going out with friends, art, traveling, and bettering the world.
Carson earned her high school diploma during a short stint in Job Corps, where she also completed a certificate in firefighting. Afterwards, Carson attended Wake Technical Community College and worked towards an Associate in Art degree. While there, she completed several art projects that show she inherited her mother Louise’s artistic talent.
Carson was outgoing, open-hearted, quick-witted, and very funny. Because of these traits, she made friends easily and kept them for life. She had a heart for justice, and she gave her time to causes that support human and animal rights. She fought for the 99%, women, and the LGBTQ community, among others. She participated in Occupy Raleigh, volunteered for an animal activist store, and during the last two years of her life, raised funds for cancer research and for hospitals that treat children with cancer.
Carson is survived by her father, Bob Ruth, her s’mom, Kay Ruth, her sisters, Julie and Hollis, her brother-in-law, Aman, her soon-to-be brother-in-law, David, her two favorite people in the world, nephew Sam and niece Anna Louise, her two special friends, Joe and Adrian, her aunts Vicky, Schatzi, Diane, Cheryl, Nicole (x2), and Sara, her uncles, Art, Michael, and Delancy, her cousins and extended family members, family friends the Dorafshars, and many good friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Louise Ruth, her grandfathers, Arthur Strickland and Ivan Ruth, her grandmothers, Ruth Strickland and Myrtle Ruth, her cousin Nicole Strickland, and Kay’s parents, Richard and Evelyn Bennett.

A celebration of Carson's life will be held on Saturday, February 15th at 2:00p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh. Following the service, the family invites all to a reception at the funeral home.
