Betty was born and raised in Louisville, KY, to the late Gilbert Anthony Fulkerson and Mattie Elizabeth McCullough Fulkerson. She graduated from the University of Kentucky, where she was awarded a voice scholarship, with a Major in English Education. Betty was extremely proud of her membership in the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. It was at a fraternity party that Betty and Bob met. Betty was immediately taken in by Bob’s war stories from his time in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On August 23, 1958, Betty and Bob were married in Louisville, KY. Betty was a true UK Big Blue fan.
Betty’s greatest joy was being a housewife and mother to her daughters and then as a “Mimi” to her grandchildren. Mimi always had room on her lap for grandchildren and lots of kisses. She relished in hearing about the details of their travels and adventures. Mimi told them often how proud she was of each of them and how much she loved them.
Betty was a member of Highland United Methodist Church for 58 years. She enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir and the Cardinal Singers, a local women’s choir. Betty had a special gift of being able to sew anything her family wanted, from prom dresses to home décor. We will forever remember her face light up when family and friends were around and the way she always, always told us she loved us when saying goodbye after a visit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Highland United Methodist Church.
