RALEIGH, NC – Sue Dewalt, 88, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed by her family and many friends.
She was the daughter of Ollie and Doss Porter of Anson County and the wife of the late Ken Dewalt, Sr. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
After graduating from high school, she moved to Charlotte to attend business school where she met and fell in love with her husband on a blind date. They were married July 19, 1947. His job took them to several different cities in North Carolina until they moved and settled in Raleigh in 1957.
Sue was a member of Crabtree Valley Baptist Church for 40 years. She also played at Blue Ridge Nursing Homes many Sunday mornings. She was homemaker until her children graduated from school and then worked part-time at the City of Raleigh where she met many more friends. She was in several bridge clubs and loved playing the piano and having people over to play and sing. Sue loved and lived life to the fullest.
After moving in with her daughter in May, 2013, she attended Beulah Baptist Church where she met and fell in love with many more friends. Sue is survived by her son Ken Dewalt, Jr. (Kathy) of South Carolina, Terry Wilson (Tommy) of Wake Forest, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephew and one sister-in-law all of whom she loved very much.
After retiring, she loved traveling and enjoyed places such as the Grand Canyon, Branson, MO., and Niagara Falls, etc. She also loved playing bridge, the piano, being around her family and church family. Sue was a homemaker for much of her children’s lives and then worked part time where she made many more friends.
The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Suzanne and Linda for taking care of their mom the last few months. The family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm to celebrate Sue’s life.
The funeral will be held at 2:00pm at Crabtree Valley Baptist Church on Friday, August 15, 2014. The burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
