Arthur Edward Turbyfill, Jr., 53, of Raleigh, NC, passed away unexpectedly while in the comfort of his home. He was born on June 20, 1961 in Asheville, NC to Arthur Edward Turbyfill, Sr. and Mary Kay Radford Turbyfill.
Arty was a kind and loving man who found great joy in books, music, movies, nature, animals and children. As a youth, he sang in a musical group with his church friends, as well as having played the clarinet in his High School’s Marching Band. He graduated from Zebulon High School in 1979 as Class Valedictorian, and was further distinguished as an Outstanding Senior, Moorehead Nominee, and was named as Most Likely to Succeed. Following graduation, he went on to earn his B.A. in History from UNC Chapel Hill in 1983.
Arty attended the Episcopal Church of St. Thomas the Apostle during a time when he lived in Dallas, TX and also served as a Senior Warden. In 1994 he moved to Raleigh to work for Progress Energy. Since that time, He has joined a local Masonic Lodge, Become an active member of the Church of the Earth, and worked most recently with Affiliated Computer Services as a Benefits Specialist.
Arty is survived by his mother, Mary Kay Turbyfull; siblings, K. Ross Turbyfill, Melissa Turbyfill Lee, and Justin Radford Turbyfill. He is also survived by his niece, Sydni Kaelyn Holmes, and many loving friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends immediately following. A private cremation service was previously held.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made a charity of your choice or that you choose to plant a tree in Art’s honor.
