Arthur James Ingram

Arthur James Ingram of Raleigh died on Tuesday, December 18th, 2018, he was 85. His death is preceded by that of his wife, Janet Svendsen Ingram in 2005. Arthur was born on February 20th, 1933, in Norwood, Massachusetts and is survived by his brother, William Ingram, as well as his three daughters: Susan Tyson, Cindy Holden, and Linda Scianna. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Jonathan Tyson, Matthew Tyson, Ashley Scianna, Christopher Holden, Bryan Scianna, Chelsea Holden, and Chloe Holden. Additionally, he is survived by two great-granddaughters: Lacey, daughter of Ashley; and Etta, daughter of Matthew.

Arthur served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed on the Eniwetok Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. Arthur had a lifelong love of flying and aircraft, which was reflected in his collection of model airplanes. He also had the opportunity to fly antique aircraft and even went skydiving later in life. After his service, Arthur worked for IBM and moved to Raleigh as the company expanded, eventually retiring in 1988. In his retirement, he built an extensive collection of classic cars, model trains, airplanes, and toys. He was also an avid golfer and cyclist, who rode his bicycle daily until a few months before his passing.

Arthur was lovingly referred to as “PopPop” by his grandchildren and this nickname has been passed down through the family to his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with all of his children and grandchildren and will be remembered as a loving, supportive, and compassionate man.

The service to remember Arthur and his life will be held on Saturday, December 29th at 2pm at Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park.
