Ann Christine Gingell, aged 83, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, at the Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice in Pittsboro. She is survived by her son, David, and grandchildren, Ian and Laura, and son-in-law, Don Stone.
Ann was born on December 20, 1940, in Lincoln, England, to Sydney and Nellie Stray. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Michael Gingell, as well as her daughter, Claire Stone.
Ann married Michael Gingell in 1963, raised two children, Claire and David. In 1979 the family immigrated to Raleigh, NC. where she lived until her passing.
Early after arriving in America, Ann found a home and shared friends in the Daughters of the British Empire and the Trans-Atlantic Brides and Parents Association. Together they prepared English food and danced at the annual Raleigh International Festival.
The Raleigh Dickens Disciples literature group was also a longstanding interest where from 1980-1985 they read the entire Dickens catalog, then branched out to other British writers. They organized an annual Dickens Fair transforming a Raleigh pedestrian mall into Victorian England in celebration of the writer.
Ann was a founding member of All Saints Anglican Church in Raleigh and the guiding force in the alter guild for over 22 years. There, she helped lead St. Tabitha’s women’s group and served on the vestry, attending services every Sunday and Wednesday. She also actively participated in bible studies and other classes and served on the church’s Mission’s Committee.
In 2016, Ann moved to a small community in the Shelly Lake area in Raleigh. Here she found a friendly and supportive group of neighbors who enjoyed walking and talking together.
In recent years Ann enjoyed exploring with a senior travel group. Together they made trips to Alaska, New York, Tennessee, Dublin and Iceland.
She was much appreciated for her volunteer work through her church as well as other service to others. A public funeral service was held at All Saints Church at 908 Deboy Street in Raleigh on May 6th, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to All Saints Anglican Church in memory of Ann.
