Mrs. Bryant was born in Quincy, Illinois to William “Harold” Brazelton and Ellen “Maidie” (nee Farnsworth) Brazelton in 1916. She grew up in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois and was graduated from Illinois State University. Following the university she worked for State Farm Insurance in their home office in Bloomington and eventually was transferred to South Carolina where she became the Assistant State Director of Insurance for the states of North and South Carolina. As a sideline, she was an early “talk show” host for a local radio station, using the on-air name of Ann Worth.
While in South Carolina, she met an Army Air Corps Captain, Fred Bryant, and they married in August 1943. He predeceased her in 2008, at age 100. Fred and Ann had three children, David, Susan, and Judy. David now lives in Raleigh, NC and Judy in Nashville, TN. Susan passed away in 2006.
Mrs. Bryant had been active in the First Presbyterian Church, Champaign, Illinois for many years, and also was a member of the Krannert Art Museum and the Champaign Social Sciences Club. An active bridge player for most of her life, she also participated in a book club where she gave reviews of a variety of published works.
In October 2009, she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to be closer to family, and was living at The Cypress in North Raleigh.
Mrs. Bryant probably is best remembered for her sharp wit and an indefatigable sense of humor. Those who knew her had to stay on their toes.
Her son, David, her daughter, Judy, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, survive her.
Family will greet friends at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, beginning at 3:30 pm on Saturday October 22nd followed by a short service at 5 pm at Mitchell, led by Dr. Peter Burgess. A private entombment will be at Mt. Hope Mausoleum, in Champaign, Illinois.
