Alice Mae Cornell

Alice Mae was born on August 19, 1937 in Hammond, Indiana to Chester and Sophie Ryba. She was raised in Hegewisch, Chicago, Illinois.

Alice was married to Joseph C. Cornell on February 4, 1956. They were married for 66 years. She was a devoted wife to her one true love, Joseph. They enjoyed roller skating together, traveling, and shared many special memories. She was a loving wife, mother to five children and grandmother to two grandchildren.

Alice retired from NIPSCO (Hammond, IN) and then relocated to Raleigh, NC in 1988. She enjoyed travel in her early years of retirement.

Alice was very spiritual and an active member of the church and volunteered with visiting the sick and homebound.

Alice is survived by her husband, Joseph C. Cornell of Raleigh, NC. Children; Joe Cornell, Scott Cornell, Michael Cornell (wife Debbie), and grandchildren Colyn and Shannan Cornell; and brother, Edward; four nieces and four nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Sophie; two sons Jimmy and David Cornell; and her older brother Mike.

No Service is planned at this time. The family will advise once arrangements for a celebration of life have been finalized.

The family wishes to thank Duke Homecare and Hospice for their comfort, dignity and care over the last several months.
