She was the 11th child of Mary and Titus growing up with some of her nieces and nephews as they were the same age.
She was sometimes spoiled by her older brothers and sisters as she was the “baby” sister.
She met the love of her life, Bernard (Puddy) Raphael Flores, at the age of 18 and had her first child, Andrea, at 19 and her 2nd child, Allison, at 20. She had such a huge heart and extended her family to include our Dad’s children, Helen, Ann (Deceased), Ava, Carlos, Bernadette (Deceased) and Victor.
Raising 8 children came with its challenges but she was up to the challenge and had often said to us she would not have changed a thing. In her heart, she was the mother of 8 and raised each of us with love and care equally. When asked, “mom who is your favorite?”, she would reply, “you not getting me in trouble”, I have no favorites.
She migrated to NY in 1968 with our Dad following the next year in 1969. She worked as a Nanny until she got a job at Chase Manhattan Bank as a Key Punch Operator and worked up the ranks to a computer programmer. She worked at Chase for 35+ years.
Our house in Queens Village was known as the party house. There was always food, drink, music and dancing except for during the school week when we were not allowed to watch TV. Mom would always check the TV, once she came home from work, to see if it was warm from being on.
She has always been the first one wanting to help all her family and friends regardless of relation. She made all her nieces and nephews feel as though they were one of her children. She was a very prayerful woman and prayed continuously for her family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, siblings (Rosalind “Bati”, McDonald “Pappan”, Pearl, Sonny, Dora, Rita, Vivian, Molly, Francis. She is survived by her brother Clemant “Boodram” Nancoo, her children, Helen (Larry), Ava, Carlos (Christine), Andrea, Allison (Christopher) and Victor (Rhonda). She is left with cherished memories by her children, 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins.
She transitioned into eternal rest on November 4th, 2024. She was truly loved by all and will be missed tremendously.
