Richard Kevin Howard completed his life's journey suddenly at his home in Brooklyn, NY on December 16, 2022. He was born November 20, 1962 to Leon and Juanita Howard and into an extended family rich with spiritual love, dedication and devotion to each other.
Richard accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age. He attended Antioch Baptist Church in Jamaica, Queens where he was active in all the church's youth activities.
He graduated from Jamaica High School and then went on to proudly serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. After his military basic training as Fort Dix, New Jersey, he served in Virginia, Louisiana and finally Germany as a water purification and petroleum supply specialist. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army in 1966.
Richard continued his life of service to others. He worked in private care residences for the elderly in Bayside, NY and secured a certificate as a Laboratory Technician from the Allen School of Physicians. In addition, he obtained his New York State Nurse Aide certification. Learning that he enjoyed his work in the field of medicine, Richard became a volunteer at Queens Hospital Center and was employed at Mount Sinai Hospital Center in New York, NY and North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY, where he received honors and awards for his outstanding performance.
Richard's interest in working with children led him to gain employment with EIHAB Human Resources as a Direct Care Counselor and with the Lifespan Agency as a Behavioral Counselor. Finally, he was employed with the New York City Administration for Children's Service (ACS) as a congregate care specialist. While employed is was stated that Richard demonstrated a high level of competence in addressing the needs of children in hazardous situations.
While Richard enjoyed his work life, what he loved most was to relax while fishing, BBQ grilling and making the best fried chicken ever! He particularly loved family gatherings and celebrations, especially birthdays, where you sure to be gifted with one of his chocolate cakes including candles.
Richard had a dynamic personality. He was extremely kindhearted, generous as well as fun, loving, and charismatic. He was the life of the party and will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Left to cherish Richard's memories are his parents, Leon & Juanita Howard, his former wife Andrea Howard and their children Kevin (Dakota) Howard, Jasmine (Lance) Howard - Davis, and step son George Marfo: His granchildren Kaylen, Nilaysha, Immanuel, Elijah, and Madison: His siblings Gloria (Norman) Zimmerman, Allen (Beverly) Howard, and Anthony (Kelly) Long: His Partner Gladys Jackson: His beloved pet Bo and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A visitation for Richard will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at R. Stutzmann & Son, 224 39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428. A prayer service will occur Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, 224 39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428. A military committal service will occur Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, NY 11792.
