Jimmy was one of four children.
During his elementary and middle school years, Jimmy received his education in Brooklyn, NY. After which he attended and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High school in Queens, NY where he studied Woodworking.
He later went on to put this skills to use working for the NYC Department of Education for over 20 years. Where he retired.
In his earlier years,Jimmy met and married Sandra Holley. From that union, son, Preston Johnson and daughter, Dahlia Johnson were born.
Jimmy later met and married the love of his life Evelina (Mazie) on November 26th, 1983 blending their families.
He and Evelina served their community by donating to various charities and even managed a soup kitchen partnered with City Harvest as well. The pair joined Rugged Cross Church where Jimmy was baptized October 14th 1994.
They later joined Friendship Baptist church where he was a dedicated member of the Deacon board for many years.
He was always kind, steadfast and resilient. He was a lover of music from Jazz, Old school R&B and Salsa and was also an avid tournament chess player in Kings Park. He enjoyed watching Sunday football or, just simply reading the Daily news and doing a crossword puzzle. Jimmy was often the life of the party..At any given moment you would hear his infectious laugh, or hear him playing the Conga or you might find him dancing to the sounds of Celia Cruz and Tito Puentes. Sometimes, you could hear him jokingly arguing with his friends or brother in-law Alexander, over the singer Nancy Wilson or, Gladys Knight whom he adored.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, James and Leona Johnson and his brother, Ernest Johnson,son Reginald and daughter Michelle.
He leaves behind his wife Evelina Johnson, his sons Preston, Phillip, Antoine , daughters Dalia, Ramona and Nadine.
24 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
James Arthur Johnson Jr. Transitioned on December 21st and in the comfort of his home, at the tender age of 80. His great-granddaughter Amissia and grandson Jordan who stayed by his side until he took his final breath while playing Nancy Wilson’s I wish you love after a long battle with Cancer.

A memorial service for James will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at R. Stutzmann & Son, 224 39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428.
