Owen “Ole” Gerlald Marlatt passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 in Port Charlotte FL. Ole was born in Portage WI on October 10, 1931. He was 91 years old. He worked for Household Finance Corporation in Superior. WI and Stevens Point WI until 1961 when he accepted a banking job at Merchants State Bank in Rhinelander, WI. He worked there until 1971 and then opened Northern Title and Abstract in Rhinelander. Upon leaving Rhinelander, he moved to North Dakota which he absolutely loved. His life included being outdoors, hunting, helping farmers, growing the most amazing vegetables and delivering fresh produce to the nursing home in Maddock ND. He wintered in Port Charlotte, FL and met the love of his life “Beverly McFerren”. They were together for almost 20 years.
Ole is survived by his daughter Sue (Mike) Chrisinger of DeForest, WI; his daughter-in-law Celia Marlatt of Rhinelander, his grandsons Dustin Marlatt who was his hunting partner, and Joel (Katy) Mancl ; his granddaughters Kara Marlatt and Erin (Rohit); his great granddaughters Lucy, Amara, and Lila and his great grandson Tucker. He was also an important part of Beverly’s family and loved them. He was preceded in death by Beverly McFerren; his son Dan; and hundreds of relatives and friends.
We thank the Port Charlotte hospice center for the brief time that he was there. On his last few days here, he wrote that he heard Beverly and she said “Good morning Sweetie”. We also asked him if Dan was near and he shook his head yes. That reunion on Wednesday morning must have been amazing.
The family wants to thank Donnie, Dona, Steve, Erin, Jackson, and Spencer Gant for adopting him into their family. Their numerous fishing and hunting trips were told to Ole before he passed. We know that he was listening.
Ole will be cremated and his ashes will be spread in North Dakota at a later date.
