Alfred was the youngest of three children born to Alfred Pagels and Veronica Pataki on July 4th, 1924 in the Bronx, New York. There he attended school and joined the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from Aviation High School.
After being honorably discharged from the service in 1946, he met and married his wife of 72 years Caroline Ratzloff.
Subsequently, Alfred joined the NYC Fire Department while raising his family with his wife. He retired after 20 years of service, and in 1981 decided to move south, to the west coast of Florida. Alfred lived by his own rules, always, and died peacefully at the age of 98 on January 15, 2023.
He is survived by his 4 children, Kenneth, Steven, Donald and Christine, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren who he was undeniably proud of and in love with. He also had a great love of Big Band music (and dancing to it..), sports (go Steelers!) and the craziest love of mussels marinara!
He is finally where he was most happy, back beside his beloved Caroline. He will be dearly missed. May he Rest In Peace.
There are no services at this time, however, plans for burial services are being arranged in accordance with Arlington Nat'l Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Alfred’s memory(see below).
