PUNTA GORDA, FL – Albert J. “Al” Bartlett, age 71, a former resident of Tewksbury, MA, and Pelham, NH, died peacefully of natural causes in his home on Sunday, July 28. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Barbara E. (Bechard) Bartlett, with whom he had celebrated a fifty-third wedding anniversary this past February.
Al was born in Cambridge, one of two children of the late George and Eleanor “Lee” (Cocco) Bartlett, and had lived in Somerville until moving to Wamesit Road in Tewksbury in 1952. He attended Tewksbury public schools and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School. After marriage, he and Barbara raised their family in Tewksbury and later in Pelham, NH. He worked for Wang Laboratories for eighteen years. After Wang’s closing, he worked computer sales and auto sales in the Greater Lowell area. In 2006, they moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, where Al became a correctional officer for the Florida Department of Corrections, Charlotte County. Al retired in 2016, after ten years of distinguished service to the Department.
Al had a love for nature, animals and of course the beach. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Donna O’Grady and her husband Patrick of Pelham, NH; a son George Bartlett and his wife Laura (Main) of Londonderry, NH; his former son-in-law, Paul Hamel of York, ME, who was husband of Al’s daughter, the late Michelle Hamel; eight grandchildren, Christina, Tiffany, Melanie, Anthony, Ryan, Brandon, Mason and Zachary. Five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Al was predeceased by his beloved sister, Jean Ubel.
