Katherine Jessie Lopez, 73, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, entered the gentle embrace of her Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Katherine, affectionately known as Katie, was born in Pueblo, Colorado on April 15, 1945 to Albert and Mary Cabrera. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Phillip Anthony Lopez, and is survived by her son, Anthony Lopez, daughter, Jeanette Martinez, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was the oldest of 2 sisters – Sandra Montoya (deceased) and Marla Spurlock, and 4 brothers – Albert Jr., Marciano, Mario and Lawrence.
Married to Phillip in Pueblo on December 8, 1962, they made their life together in Denver. A few years after his tragic death in 1968, Katie moved back to Pueblo, where she strived to provide the best opportunities for her children and grandchildren, placing others’ needs before her own. She loved the Lord above all else, read her Bible every day, and shared the love of Christ with everyone she met, saying, “Jesus Loves You”. She knew he loved her because he carried her through the great and many challenges of her life. We all will miss her immensely until we are reunited in the presence and glory of God.
