Clif (Clifton) Smith (76 years old) passed away on Friday the 5th of July 2024. He had been very ill with Lewy Body Dementia, and was in Parkview Hospital in Pueblo West for 10 days before being transferred to the Sangre de Cristo, Joni Fair Hospice. Both medical facilities were so very wonderful to him. He and Pearle Sandstrom-Smith celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary on June 10th,this year.
Clif and Jan Fullerton Smith had a son; Derek Smith. Derek, much loved by Clif, married Julie Marino Smith and gave Clif his only Grandson, Nolan Smith. Sometimes Clifton was sorry that Denver seemed so far away from his son.
His parents Wylie and Corrine Smith lived in several towns in Texas. Clif was born in San Angelo, TX. He graduated from High School in Levelland, Texas in 1965. Then on to College at Southwest Texas in San Marcos. Clif received his Master Degree from Adams State College in Alamosa. He came to Colorado in 1969 and began his teaching career. He taught Special Education at Keating Jr. High from 1969 until he went to East High School in 1972 and finally got to teach his major in English. He spent many years at East High. Then on to South High for a couple of years as they needed an English teacher. He left South in 1985 and found his last teaching position at Centennial High. He retired from teaching in District 60 in 2021 after 32 years with teenagers. He was a very good and patient teacher. Clif had 2 brothers, Ed and Dave that preceded him in passing away. The brothers are all together now.
Clif and Pearle enjoyed many Birding outings with and for the Arkansas Valley Audubon Society. He made great friends with every birder he met. Clif made a great field trip leader; it must have been all those years of teaching. He also enjoyed every time he went to the Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center. And he was an award-winning photographer and member of the Pueblo Art Guild.
Clif will always be remembered for his quiet manner, his gentle soul, being a caring friend and a wonderful husband for Pearle.
