William Carcieri, Jr.

William Carcieri, Jr., 88, of Lincoln passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 4, 2023. He was the loving husband of Lucille T. (Tella-Taylor) Carcieri to whom he was happily married for 57 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late William and Elena (Pisaturo) Carcieri.

He was the beloved father of William A. Carcieri, III and his wife Tara and cherished grandfather of Ella Juliana Carcieri. He was also the brother of Elena Pisaturo and her husband Richard, Teresa Dillon and her late husband Maurice and Camille Roberti and her late husband Dr. Robert F. Roberti; brother in law of Nicholas Tella-Taylor and his wife Judy; uncle to several nieces and nephews and uncle of the late Elena Pisaturo.

Bill received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 1956. Upon graduating, he went to work for the New England Division of the United States Army Corps of Engineers on construction projects throughout the region. These projects included radar stations, reserve training centers, Strategic Air Command bases, breakwaters, and channel dredging. He was also assigned to the Design Branch on civil and military projects and to the Operations Division where he was responsible for the maintenance and operation of all Corps of Engineers flood control facilities in New England. In addition, Bill spent six months on active military duty at the U.S. Army Engineer Center at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.

In 1959, Bill left Rhode Island for California where he was employed as an Assistant Traffic Engineer for the City of Los Angeles. At the same time, he attended U.C.L.A. where he studied an advanced traffic engineering program. While he was in LA, his good looks earned him a spot on the Groucho Marx television show in 1960.

Bill returned to Rhode Island in 1960 and began his career with the State of Rhode Island as a resident engineer on various waterfront construction projects for the Division of Harbors and Rivers of the Department of Transportation. He transferred to the Division of Roads and Bridges where he worked as a project engineer on road and bridge construction projects for twelve years.

In 1977, he was appointed to the position of Chief Design Engineer, responsible for all highway and bridge design work within the Division of Public Works of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. Bill was a registered professional engineer in the State of Rhode Island and a member of the Rhode Island Society of Professional Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. In February of 1981, Bill was promoted to the position of Chief Engineer/Deputy Director until his retirement in 1993.

Upon retirement, Bill enjoyed vacationing, antiquing, and frequent trips to the casino. He was also a Louis Prima fan as well as an avid country western concert goer.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Burial will be private.
