He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and hero; he served the United States Navy during the Korean War (1955-1957) before returning to Providence to protect his community as a firefighter. Walter retired as a Lieutenant with the Providence Fire Department and later served as Fire Marshal of Brown University (1985-1997).
Walter was the son of the late Walter and Annie (Arrouquier) Loiselle of Providence, RI, and the brother of the late Lydia (Loiselle) Stusick of Wickford, RI and Anne Loiselle of Warwick, RI. Walter leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Loiselle at home in North Providence, RI, his children: Diane Franklin of Los Angeles, CA, Denise Campbell and her husband Michael of North Providence, RI, Walter A. Loiselle Jr. and his wife Tina of Naples, FL, Arthur Choiniere of Wickford. RI, Paul Choiniere and his wife Kathy of Griswold, CT, and the late Bobby Choiniere of Cranston, RI; his grandchildren Justin, Jennifer, Sarah, Michael, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Alexander, Daniel, and Jonathan; and his great-grandchildren Aralyn, Luis, Asher, and Lyli.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday November 30 at 12:30 pm in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Burial with full military honors will follow at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Family and friends may call at the funeral home the morning of his funeral from 11:00-12:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, friends and families who wish to honor Walter's memory may donate to the Providence Fire Fighters Local 799 Scholarship Fund or the RI Blood Center, which Walter helped to establish in 1979.
