Tyrone L. Thompson, 76, passed away in Davenport, FL on October 11th, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on November 7th, 1947 in Panama City, Panama to Victor and Maud Thompson. Ty, as his friends and family affectionately called him, moved to Brooklyn, New York where he lived for most of his life before retiring in Florida.
Tyrone proudly enrolled in the United States Army in 1968 at the age of 21 as a combat engineer receiving the National Defense Service Medal. After he was honorably discharged in 1971, Ty was an incredibly dedicated carrier for the US Postal Service for 49 years, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew and worked with him.
Ty is survived by his wife, Silvia, to whom he was married for 51 years of marriage; his adoring children, Tyrone (Tee) and Sean; his grandchild, Carter; and his loving siblings Vivian, Derek, Roberto, Barbara and Elizabeth.
While we lost our most beloved husband and father, many have lost a friend, colleague, a brother and cousin…the list goes on and on. He has been a rock to many, a handyman, a master coquito maker and dance partner but there was so much more to him than just that, to us, dad, was his greatest role. One of his joys was watching his grandson, Carter Ty, named after his loving Pa Pa, grow up and teach him how to say “Ciao!”
His celebration of life will be held with visitation on December 3rd, 2024 at 11:00 am in Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI.
