Sr. Mary Catherine Docherty, Franciscan Missionary of Mary, Ein Karim Community, North Smithfield, died March 23, 2008 at St. Antoine's Residence. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (Donnelly) Docherty.She entered the Institute of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary at Coldash, England September 1946 where she pronounced her first vows March 19, 1949. She was sent in mission to the USA and pronounced her final vows March 19, 1952 in Holy Family Convent, North Providence. She joined others of her sisters traveling all over the United States selling the handwork made in the Missions, thus obtaining the funds necessary to support the missionary work of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary here and abroad. She then served as a group mother in Mount St. Francis, Woonsocket until 1957. She served as a receptionist at St. Clement's Eucharistic Shrine, and then at Our Lady of Millbrook Convent, New York. She was the residence supervisor in St Clement's Residence for Women and also in St. Francis Residence, San Francisco.From 1979 until her last illness, she served as the activities director for the Fruit Hill Day Services for the Elderly, North Providence.She is survived by sisters Philomena McCafferty of Stirlingshire, Scotland, Sr. Marie ThAC.rAse, CSN of Cardiff, New South Wales, a niece, several nephews, grandnieces, grand nephews, great grandniece and great grandnephew.Visiting hours Tuesday 2 to 8 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7 p.m. in the Holy Family Chapel, 399 Fruit Hill Avenue, North Providence; Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at 11:00am in the Holy Family Chapel.
