Born, raised, and educated in Providence; he was the beloved son of the late Mary (Downing) Cunningham and Raymond Brown.
Robert proudly served as a Corporal and Member of the 13th Ranger Airborne Division during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star.
After his service, Robert returned to Rhode Island to raise his family primarily in Warwick and worked as a salesman in the industrial product supply field.
Upon retiring, he moved to Florida and continued being an avid golfer, as well as enjoying music, dancing and celebrating his Irish heritage. Robert eventually returned to Rhode Island to be close to family during his twilight years.
He was the loving father of Michael Brown and Cheryl Gonzalez; cherished brother of the late Raymond and Richard Brown, Ruth Knotek and Doris Supranovich; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
His funeral services and burial are private.
