Raymond “Ray” Paulhus, 70, of Pawtucket, died June 10, 2011. He was born to Edward Sr. and Rosalma (Hebert) Paulhus, the last of five children. Ray was raised in Pawtucket and attended St. Theresa’s School (a member of the first graduating class) and St. Raphael’s Academy.
Ray married Patricia DeGrenier on April 28, 1962 and they began their own family. The family moved to East Providence in 1968 and as the children grew, Ray became active as a coach for the Rumford Little League. As their children began to move away, Ray and Pat moved back to Pawtucket.
Ray spent his working life as a truck driver, spending many years on the road. He travelled through forty-six states before coming off the road and eventually retiring from Cowan Trucking last year.
Ray enjoyed travelling to Tennessee with his wife, Saturday morning pancake breakfasts, the Boston Red Sox, family cook-outs, Ben & Jerry’s Brownie Batter ice cream, and sitting on his deck watching his favorite tree. But more than anything, his grandchildren were his world.
Ray is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia; daughter Lu Ann and David Hall of Pawtucket; son Ray Jr. and Patti Paulhus of Menifee, CA; daughter Sandie and Sam Freshner of Portland, OR; son Tim and Misty Paulhus of North Providence; daughter Patrice and Gary Rook of Pawtucket; grandchildren Ashley Hall, Meaghan and Greg Clark, Lauren Hall, Kaitlyn Hall, Tyler Paulhus, Karmen Paulhus, JC and Bee Barber, Cassie Barber and Shawn Cyr, Matthew Paulhus, Allyson Paulhus, and Chloe Paulhus; great-grandson Cameron Cyr; and sister Annette Guindon. Ray was predeceased by his parents, sister Doris Hanson, and brothers Edward “Ted” and Roger Paulhus.
Services for Mr. Paulhus will be held Tuesday, June 14th, beginning with a public visitation at 3:30 p.m. and followed by a Celebration of Life at 5 p.m. in the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904. www.pontarellimarinofunerals.com
