He was the beloved husband and best friend of Jean (Del Grande) Albanese. They were married for 63 years. He was the son of the late Joseph and Domenica (Mancini) Albanese.
He was a lifelong resident of North Providence. He served as a Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service for 31 years and was a member or the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 15. He was a proud former Marine and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War Era. He was a Life Member of the Geneva Volunteer Fire Department where he held the ranks of Captain on the Fighting Force and was a past President. He also served on the North Providence Fire Department Call System and was a member of the Woonasquatucket Valley Firemen’s League. Leonard was a communicant of St. Anthony Church his entire life and served as a Eucharistic Minister and usher for many years.
Along with his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Bertoncini, and her husband, David, as well as a son, Leonard Albanese Jr., and two grandchildren, Michael David Bertoncini and Alexa Marie Albanese. He was the youngest brother to his late siblings, sisters Lena DeStefano, Esther Betts, Edith Simeone and Anna Polce; and brothers Andrew, Albert and Joseph.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday at 10 AM in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will be private. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St. Anthony Church Memorial Fund, 5 Gibbs Street, North Providence, RI 02904.
