WarwickLaura M. (Lambert) Sharkey, RN, 90, of Warwick passed away at home on May 31, 2010. She was the wife of the late John F. Sharkey. They had been married for 60 years.Born in Sayre, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Mary Murphy Lambert and Harry Lambert. Laura graduated from Athens High School in 1938. She graduated from Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 as a registered nurse. Laura worked as a nurse at Chapin Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, and as a psychiatric nurse at Butler Hospital. She met and married her husband John in 1942, and began her work in pediatrics at home. Together they raised 12 children. Laura was an avid reader, blessed with a sharp intellect and a keen sense of Irish wit and humor. She was a patron of the Pontiac Free Library, and a friend of the Warwick Public and Providence Public Libraries.A communicant of St. Timothy Church in Warwick, she was a wonderful role model of faith, and performed many good works with quiet grace. Her generosity and compassion for others were inspirational to all who met her.She is survived by her children, John F. Sharkey and wife Maggie of East Greenwich, Edward J. Sharkey and wife Cathleen of Warwick, Jean M. Holmes and husband Thomas of Narragansett, Patricia A. McCarthy and husband Kevin of Cranston, Mary J. Calner and husband Paul of Narragansett, Thomas J. Sharkey and wife Christina of Richmond, Laure Paolozzi and husband Walter of Warwick, James P. Sharkey and wife Karol of Warwick, Michael J. Sharkey and wife Andrea of Cranston, Margaret M. D'Alfonso and husband Robert of North Kingstown, and Catherine T. Sharkey of Warwick. She was the mother of the late Stephen Sharkey.She was the grandmother of twenty-seven, and great grandmother of five.Laura was the sister of Paul Lambert of Cooperstown, NY, and the late Harold Lambert, Margaret Nora O'Brien, John Joseph Lambert, Anne Kathryn Krouse, Barbara Mary Fraley, and Charles Thomas Lambert. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, June 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Timothy Church, Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick (Exit 10A off I-95) Graveside burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Timothy Church Memorial Fund, 1799 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, RI 02889 would be appreciated.
