John B. Lavin, 69, of West Greenwich, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at home. He was the husband of Judith L. Lavin. They were married for 39 years.Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Bertha L. (Flynn) Lavin.John was the founder and owner of Hi-Tech, Inc., a manufacturing company of high-tech precision components, for over 30 years.He was an avid sports enthusiast who moved to California to surf during his early years and later spent many weekends downhill skiing and golfing in New Hampshire. John was a member of the East Greenwich Yacht Club and had a very successful sailing career for over 30 years. He loved racing his J-29 sailboat named "Dirty Harry" and was extremely proud of winning the PHRF Overall Performance Trophy at the New York Yacht Club Rolex Race Week in 2004. John and Judy were avid shooters at the American Firearms School in No. Attleboro, MA and he was also a talented gourmet cook.Besides his wife Judy, he leaves two very faithful companions, his two Siberian huskies, Regis and Rocky; his brother, Francis J. Lavin, and his wife Helen; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth A. Howe, and her life partner, Peter Saccoccio, Jr., and Deborah M. Howe; two nephews, Vincent J. Pennacchio and Ciro J. Lotito, III; and a cousin, Donald J. Plummer, and his wife, Barbara. He was also the brother of the late William Lavin and the beloved nephew of John H. Flynn, Jr.His funeral will be held on Thursday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt. 117 - Exit 10 off I-95) Warwick, with a funeral service at 10:00 am, in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, from 5-8 pm.
