Gerald “Jerry” Raymond Lowell, 84, of South Kingstown, passed away May 8, 2024 after a brief illness. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Ida (Roberts) and Raymond Lowell. Jerry was the beloved husband of Joan C Messina, which he described as the love of his life. He leaves behind his daughter Jeri D’Antico and her husband Richard of Cranston, RI and son Benjamin Messina and his wife Sarah of Pennsylvania and grandchildren Andrew D’Antico and his wife Amanda of Warwick, RI and Gianna Messina and BenBen Messina of Pennsylvania.
Jerry was a contractor for many years, building homes and businesses in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Canada.
Jerry was avid IHRA Drag Race Fan as well as a member and the driver of his 1987 Buick Grand National. He would compete at several tracks across New England, New York, New Jersey, and Ohio. Jerry once won the quarter mile race in 8.8 seconds. He was so proud to have his grandson Andrew as his pit crew member. Jerry and Andrew traveled together racing for many years until his retirement.
In his retirement years, Jerry’s hobby was working on the restoration of an El Camino with his dear friend Jim Grace.
