Donald N. Richard, Sr., devoted husband and partner, adored father and cherished grandfather, died peacefully on May 1, 2021 at the age of 77. He was born in Providence to the late Charles and Mary Zita (Paulhus) Richard and was the beloved husband of the late Sheila (Moriarty) Richard for 46 years.
Mr. Richard earned a BA from Providence College and a master’s degree from LaSalle University before beginning his professional career as a teacher in the Johnston school system. He and his wife then purchased Eagle Park Hardware in Providence and ran it with their children for many years. He then returned to teaching and student advocacy for the Warwick School system until his retirement 10 years ago. He cherished working as a guidance counselor and assisting graduating high school students realize their dreams in higher education and professional life.
Mr. Richard (“Pa”) was a devoted grandfather, sharing his expertise as a woodworker, his love of reading, his enthusiasm for Bruins hockey and his endless dad jokes. He is survived by his two sons, his daughter and their families: Don Richard, Jr. and Cara Mitchell (Carly and Aidan) of Falmouth, MA, Mark and Marie Richard (Joe, Sarah and Nate) of Lovettsville, VA, and Christine and Jim Tiner (Hannah and James) of North Providence, RI. Mr. Richard is also survived by his brother, Robert Richard, his sisters, Jean (Richard) Accinno and Carol Richard, his partner Ele Ricci of North Smithfield and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five siblings: Charles Richard, Norman Richard, Zita (Richard) Cannon and Lorraine (Richard) Hogan.
Mr. Richard’s guidance, kindness and humor will be greatly missed.
