Catherine "Kay" Theresa Burns, age 98, of Providence, Rhode Island passed away with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late J. William Burns, they were married for 44 years prior to his death in 1998.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary ( Collins ) Gallagher.
Kay was employed for many years as a sales clerk at Murray’s in Providence. She was always very active, loved walking and enjoyed many years as part of the women’s bowling league. With her family homestead in Ireland, she loved traveling back to visit family thus keeping family ties close over the years.She has been a faithful communicant of St Raymond’s Church in Providence for almost 70 years where she was a Eucharistic minister. She was also part of the parish Leisure Group and enjoyed working at the bazaars and the many functions that were run by the leisure group and the parish over the years.
She was also a Covenant member of The People of Gods Love prayer group for many years where she and her family grew in Gods love and have many brothers and sisters in Christ.
Kay loved the ocean. Many summers were spent at Breakwater Village and Sand Hill Cove. Her favorite beach in recent years has been Galilee Beach where she loved watching the boats come in and out of the channel.
She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and always loved having the children around. Her other loves were her grand-dogs Bubs and Baxter and Ellie and of course kitty, Danny Boy, who loves sitting on her lap. She will be greatly missed by everyone.
Kay is survived by her children, William T. Burns and his wife Debra of Warwick, Kathleen M. LaBrosse of Providence, Joanne T. Anderson and her husband Robert of West Kingston, her beloved grandchildren, Mark Norman, Amanda Mattiace and her husband Mario, Matthew Burns, Charles LaBrosse, Benjamin LaBrosse and his wife Michelle, Rebecca LaBrosse, Katelyn Anderson and Kevin Anderson. She also leaves 6 great grandchildren Aidan, Hailey, Gian, Grace, JP and Kinsley. Kay is also predeceased by her siblings, Francis Gallagher, Florence Gallagher and Mary LaBrecque. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who loved her and enjoyed her great sense of humor and fun.
Funeral from the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Raymond Church, 1240 North Main Street, Providence. Burial will be in the RI Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
