Athena (Papapostolos) Cox, 93, peacefully passed away October 12, 2015 at her home at the Jeanne Jugan Residence in Pawtucket. Born in Clinton, Massachusetts on August 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna Papapostolos. She was the wife of the late Raymond Cox who she shared her life with at her long-time residence in Fairfield, Connecticut. Subsequently, she lived in Orlando and Altamonte Springs, Florida prior to relocating back to the northeast. Athena was a devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt, having dedicated her life to serving her family. Athena was very active member of the Orthodox Church in each community in which she resided. She was an athletic coordinator at the University of Bridgeport for many years where she was able to enjoy her love of sports. Athena will be best remembered as a gracious and dignified woman, a warm and generous person who was an excellent listener and wise counselor.
Athena is survived by her children Salvatore Natale, Frances Giatas, John Natale and his wife Kathie Ferrara; her granddaughters Christina Giatas and Lisa and Michelle Natale; her sisters Pauline Carabitses, Helen Vierbickas Rigas, Christine Kehayes and Koula Holmquist and seventeen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother John Stolos, her sister Georgia Davidson and two nieces and one nephew.
Visitation will be held Thursday 4-6 p.m. followed by a service at 6:30 p.m. in the Holy Dormition Orthodox Church, 71 Manville Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Dormition Orthodox Church.
