Today is the 28 of September 2024. A few days ago I found out that
Scot had passed away. Since then I have thought about him, his life and our friendship. I first met Scot in 1974 when I moved to Williams Lake. We became friends through high school and the years following. As life goes we eventually took different roads. Our lives seldom intersected as we grew older. However the friendship we had in more carefree days remained.  
Some years ago I was working the "Granville Strip" in downtown Vancouver. Myself, 7 other Police Officers ,including a dog handler and a drug detection dog were in the 900 block of Granville St. As we moved up the sidewalk I looked about 20ft ahead and instantly recognized Scot walking toward me as he instantly recognized me. Scot made eye contact with me and gave me a half smile/half grin and a nod of his head. 
 He was surprised when I stopped and reached out to shake his hand. Scot found himself surrounded by 8 uniformed Police Officers and a drug dog. I told the rest of the Police Officers that it was okay as Scot was an old friend of mine. They could continue the sweep and I would catch up in a few minutes. With a slight hesitation they continued on. I spoke to Scot briefly, then we both carried on. 
Today I am reaching out to say good-bye to an old friend. I never had another friend like Scot. Even though I didn't see Scot a lot I know I
will miss him.

Reflecting on Scot as a friend and colleague who I met in some shared work supporting resource stewardship with the First Nations of Treaty 8. Scot cared deeply about social justice and caring for Creation. With the blessing and love of his family wife Adele and daughter Emily he left this life with a smile. I know his legacy will live on like the seeds of food  he so lovingly cultivated. May you rest in peace in God's garden my friend.
