Sylvia Delores Shaw

Sylvia Delores Shaw, 89, of Prattville, Alabama was born on November 2, 1934, in Perth Amboy, NJ, to the late Mathew and Bette (Nemeth) Sadowski. She passed away peacefully at home under the care of Traditions Health Hospice Care on June 1, 2024. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her son-in-law Ricardo Valdebenito and her children's father, Thomas J. Shaw Jr. with whom she traveled as an Air Force wife in her early years.

Most of her young life was lived in Middlesex Co, NJ, Orange Co, NY, and in June 1976 she relocated to Sarasota, FL. She settled in Prattville, Alabama in 2001. Sylvia is survived by her sister Sandra Dube' (Bernie); two daughters, Cheryl Valdebenito, Cynthia Cherry-Frankel (Dan); son Matthew Shaw (Yong Sun); four grandchildren: Shawn Cherry (Shiloh), Bradford Rogers, Marie Sawyer- Moffett (Aaron) and Joseph Shaw; and six great-grandchildren: Ethan, Jimmy Lee, Leighann, Patrick, Jasmine and Emma; two nieces: Laura Koller (Gregg) and BefteAnn Wolfe (Douglas), and their families, as well as a number of Nemeth and Sadowski/Melnick cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Rest in peace Sylvia. You will forever be in our hearts and memories. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Traditions Health Hospice Care (traditionshealth.com) or a local woman's shelter. The empathy and caring of the Traditions Healthcare Hospice Care staff there will be long remembered.
