Joan Shackelford Finley

Joan Shackelford Finley, age 83, of Montgomery passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Ray Finley, and her parents, Doris Myers and Joseph (Jake) Shackelford. She is survived by her two daughters: Stacie Finley Kendrick of Robertsdale and Kellie Finley Thompson (Jimbo) of Prattville. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Jordan Kendrick (Erika), Hunter Kendrick (Caroline), Taylor Thompson, Khloe Thompson and one great-granddaughter, Steele Kendrick. She will be missed by numerous family members and dear friends.

Joan was born in Orlando, Florida, in 1940. She later met her loving husband, Earl, and the two were married in 1963. They were married for 34 years before his passing in April 1998. Although stern in her child-rearing years, she had a heart of gold and always tried to help loved ones when in need. As a mom, she always let her daughters know how much she cared for and appreciated them and believed in them no matter what. She was a great friend to many and had a fun-loving personality throughout her life.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 11 am – 12:30 pm at Ridout’s-Brown-Service Prattville Chapel with a graveside service to follow at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Joey Elsky will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jordan and Hunter Kendrick and Taylor Thompson; her nephews, Tim and Greg Duncan; and her son-in-law, Jimbo Thompson.
