Louis E. Rheaume, formerly of Potsdam, NY died Saturday (March 1, 2014) at Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading, MA. Louis was predeceased by his wife Ann Rheaume, three sisters, Irene, Margaret and Mary and two brothers, Romeo and Henry.
Louis is survived by his son, Gregory and his wife Christina Szoka, of Woburn, MA; two daughters, Annette Rheaume of Boston, MA and Leisa Hain of Beaufort, NC, and two grandchildren, Tyler Hain of Rutland, VT and Molly Hain of Orlando, FL.
Louis was born on December 20, 1922 in Potsdam, NY, son of Ezra and Josephine Rheaume. He graduated from Potsdam High School and joined the US Marine Corps in 1941. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC and Parris Island, SC and served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. After the service, Louis was employed by the New York Telephone Company until his retirement in 1978. After retiring from the Telephone Company, Louis and Ann made their home in Brasher Falls, NY.
Louis married Ann Lavine, formerly of Colton, NY on September 18, 1948 at St Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY with Reverend Tierney officiating. They were married for 59 years.
Louis and his wife were avid golfers and spent many winter months in Myrtle Beach, SC enjoying golf with their friends. Louis was an expert carpenter and builder. He had a great love for nature and loved all outdoor activities including fishing, camping, skiing and ice skating with his family.
Funeral arrangements are with Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam , NY . At the request of his family, services will be held at a later date and will include a Mass at the North Lawrence Church in North Lawrence, NY with Father Patrick Ratigan.
