Joseph William Yurack passed away May 15, 2024 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by his beloved family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Joseph was born December 12, 1947 in Troy, NY to Martin and Betty (Sears) Yurack. He was the youngest of 4 siblings that included 3 older sisters, Joan, Pauline and Jean (predeceased).
Joseph graduated from Potsdam High School in 1966 and attended Jefferson Community College in Watertown, NY. He worked at Anchor Motor Freight Inc. on Wellesley Island for 20 years until they closed. He was also very active in coaching minor hockey in Clayton while his children were involved. Later in life, he continued to coach, mentor, and train many young athletes.
Joseph had a passion for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, exercise and cycling.. He spent as much time as he could fishing the St. Lawrence and Raquette Rivers where he lived. Joe was an avid cyclist, completing his final 30-mile race in the Summer of 2023 finishing 1st in his age group, while battling Stage 4 cancer, "A True Warrior."
Joseph is survived by his sisters, Pauline Brothers, Joan Perrigo, Children, Todd Yurack, Daughter-In-Law Elizabeth Yurack, Carolyne Pace, Crandah McKenzie, Nichol Nelson, and his beloved companion, Char Frysinger, Grandchildren, Cole Yurack, Kianna & Tyler Langley, Taylor Pace, Luke McKenzie & Lachland McKenzie.
Per Joseph's wishes, there will be no services held. Donations can be made to Thousand Islands Youth Hockey (P.O. Box 278 Clayton, NY 13624). Online condolences may be made at www.garnerfh.com. A celebration of life will be held in the future at the family's convenience.
