Mr. James Richard Sullivan Jr. age 41, of Parishville, NY was pronounced dead in the Emergency Room at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital on Monday, September 12, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY with Msgr. Robert Aucoin celebrant. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam, NY. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 and on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9. James is survived by his wife Jill M. Sullivan; children Kassidy and Wyatt Sullivan; his parents James and Eileen Sullivan; brothers Brian (Heather) Sullivan and Kevin (Kelly) Sullivan all of Potsdam; maternal grandfather Wayne Bush of Massena; his mother and father-in-law Richard and Susan Butterfield,sister-in-law Tammy (Daniel) March, brother-in-law Scott (Amanda) Butterfield and sister-in-law Jennifer (David) Green and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents Robert and Edith Sullivan and his maternal grandmother Marion Bush.
James was born on May 23, 1970 in Potsdam, NY to James R. Sullivan Sr. and Eileen Bush. He was a 1989 graduate of Parishville-Hopkinton Central School. He worked at Great American Grocery Store, Hyde-Stone Mechanical Contractors, First Class Aire and then most recently at SUNY Potsdam as a custodian for the past four years.
On August 29, 1992 at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY he was married to Jill M. Butterfield with Rev. Raymond Moreau celebrant.
James was very active in the Parishville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Dept. He was a member of the Parishville Volunteer Fire Dept. for 24 years. He was the 3rd Assistant Chief from 1992-93 and the First Assistant Chief from 94-95; then Chief from 1995-2000 and from 2002-2008. He was the St. Lawrence County Fire and Rescue Deputy Fire Coordinator for District #5. He was a member of the Northern New York Volunteer Fire Association and the St. Lawrence County Fire Chiefs Association.
