Our Mom was born Vicki Lee Darco on December 5, 1950 to Eugene Kaye & Ida Catherine Darco in Portland Oregon. They moved into the house that Grandpa built for them in 1955, and shortly after on Sept. 30, 1957, Mom had her little brother and only sibling Gene Kaye Darco, affectionately nicknamed by Aunt Leah as “Tobey” and thus that’s all we knew him by growing up.
Mom attended Roosevelt High School as did all of her Children and a couple of her Grandkids as well as all of her nieces and nephews. She met the Love of her Life, Larry Curtis Rose, her junior years of high school……. They were married on January 24, 1969….
PLEEEEASE DONT TRY TO DO THE MATH… (giggle) , They welcomed their 1st child Christina Marie Rose on Aug 28, 1969…
Their 2nd beautiful daughter Heather Chenoa Rose was born Oct 22, 1972,
They welcomed their Only Son Michael Andru Rose on May 25 1977. A few months after Mikey’s birth, Mom had an appt for a tubaligation surgery … when they told her they could not do the surgery… when she asked why, they said , “ well because you’re expecting !!”, It was then that they greeted their 4th child and youngest daughter LesLee Nicole Rose, born June 27, 1978.
Over the years Mom had a multitude of jobs on top of being wife, mother, teacher and head cook. She was a talented artist, Doll maker, armed guard (hehe my Mom was kind of a bad ass)and a barmaid, a home care giver and in 1991 she would begin her journey as Grandma to an entire tribe of Grandkids and even 2 Great Grandsons.
Mom and Dad as most of you well know always had an open door to any and all of their kid’s friends and neighborhood kids who needed a safe place and a structured Homelife with rules & chores to be done. We once made a list of all of the names of the kids who had come and gone since Mom & Dad joined hearts, Some stayed for days, months and some even remained family for years and they absolutely meant it when they called our parents Mom & Dad…. That list topped out at over 200 names, not to mention all of the stray dogs, cats, birds, a goat, a rooster that we cared for growing up as well. !!!!
Mom & Dad welcomed in anyone who needed help or needed a place to belong to a family.
Our family is best summed up by a quote from a photo frame found by my Brother Mike & Sister in law Kelly….
“ FAMILY…A LITTLE BIT OF CRAZY, A LITTLE BIT OF LOUD, A WHOLE LOTTA LOVE, JUST THE RIGHT MIX OF CHAOS, AND LOVE !!!
Many lessons taught to us by our parents and their Love for the Lord, The Golden Rule “ treat others as you wish to be treated”
~ no matter how much we fight amongst one another, ALWAYS be there to help and support each other when the chips are down, and NEVER EVER, fight over money or material things, they won’t bring you happiness.
Mom was preceded in death by Daddy on Dec 20, 2018, She is survived by her only sibling, her Brother Tobey Darco & wife Peggy, their 6 children and 16 Grandchildren…. Her own children Christina Bailey & husband Chris, Heather Rose & partner Claire, Michaell Rose & spouse Kelly, Leslee Rose & partner Matt…… She loved 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons….. and Boooyyy did they love their GIGI !!!
Want to read to you a little story written by our baby sister LesLee on the night Momma left this world for the Kingdom of heaven ….
Once upon a time there was a woman and a man, together they walked side by side, hand in hand.
The man got down on one knee to propose his love forever, the magic you see in the proposal to make a loved woman called his wife, not for a few days , but forever and in the after life.
They had kids and grandkids , some inherited from near and far, one day all came together to wish upon a star….
Upon many trips to the coast, camping and also multnomah falls, long Sunday drives as a family and to others, Free for all.
There were good times and bad, happy times and sad, many years of family gatherings that went well, others not always as planned.
We never ever were perfect here on this land, but when one was struggling in support and need… The others lend a hand.
I could go on forever, but there comes a time to let go… It’s ok Mama, you are not alone, you are reunited with your soul mate, our loving Dad…. We will all be ok, but all extremely sad.
Life is what you make it, embrace it as we will do, We are missing you both now and part of us remains blue.
This life you have given us, filled with many memories of you, at a time when you needed us…. We needed you too.
You maybe be gone physically from this world but spiritually in our hearts , when in reality you are always with and we’ll never be apart.
Life can be magical where dreams can come true, we always need to remember the importance of love, strength, family, teachings and the life memories are gifts we received from you.
WITH MUCH LOVE FROM ALL OF US ALWAYS AND FOREVER, TO MOM AND DAD TOGETHER NOW …… HAPPILY EVER AFTER!
