Ty was born to Forrest Milton Daniel and Adrian Joanne Smith in Alamosa, Colorado on June 21, 1961. He earned an Associate's of Engineering degree from Central Oregon Community College in 1982. He continued his education at Oregon State University, where he received a Bachelor's degree as well as a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a licensed chemical and environmental engineer in the state of Oregon, as well as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Accredited Professional (LEED AP).
His work as a chemical engineer spanned decades. Ty worked for Reidel Environmental Services and CH2M Hill before stepping in his role at Boeing, where he would spend 23 years. From 2006 to 2012, he was pivotal in Boeing Portland's plating shop expansion as the lead project engineer for designing and implementing a state of the art LEED gold certified plating facility. In 2017 Ty would become an Associated Technical Fellow for the Boeing Company.
He is survived by his wife, Jenny Lin; stepson Tony Zhang; father, Forrest Milton Daniel; mother, Adrian Joanne Smith; and brother, Vincent Stephen Daniel.
