On Sunday, March 23, 2014, Major Thomas Frank Elliott went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Tom was born to George and Mildred Elliott on December 6, 1926 in Broadus, Montana. He and his beloved wife Merle (Parsons) were married for over 65 years and raised five children: Sharon Gregg (Bob), Diane Henderson (Ed), Jerry Elliott (Rebecca), Janet Yardley (Bob) and Jeff Elliott (Mary). The Elliotts have 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Tom and Merle were ordained as ministers in the Salvation Army and spent their lives together serving God and people in various parts of the western United States. Tom was known for his gift of communication. His sermons mixed humor, plain language and a love of people to effectively touch the hearts of his congregation.
Tom was always happiest when surrounded by family, especially if it included his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also had a special place in his heart for all dogs.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held March 29th at 1:00 PM at the Salvation Army Portland Tabernacle, 1712 NE Sandy Blvd., Portland, OR. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Major Tom Elliott Youth Music Scholarship (address same as above).
Arrangements under the direction of Caldwell's, Hennessey, Goetsch & McGee Funeral Home, Portland, OR.
