Assunta "Sue" Santoro was born June 10, 1917, at home on the family farm on Rosedale Road near Reedville, Oregon, to Italian immigrants Bruno and Annunciata (Rizzuti) Santoro as the eighth of 12 children. She graduated from Hillsboro Union High School in 1936. She continued to live in the Hillsboro, Oregon community for 91 years of her life. She married Wilfred L. Barnett in Hillsboro on October 29, 1939. They were together for 71 years. She passed away April 1, 2011, with her son Douglas by her side at Beaverton Farmington Square Senior Care Community.
She was a homemaker and worked on their small farm when her children were young, then later worked for more than 15 years as a laboratory aide at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro. She enjoyed cardplaying, gardening, baking pies & cobblers, canning fruits & vegetables, and especially watching her kids and grandkids play ball games.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred; brothers, John (childhood), Rufie and John; and sisters, Mary Santoro (infancy), Rosie Santoro (childhood), Mary Jameson, Kathryn Palumbo and Millie Girard.
She is survived by her sons, Richard (wife Carol) of Beaverton, Larry (wife Annette) of McMinnville and Douglas Barnett of Beaverton; brother, Joe Santoro of Beaverton; sisters, Lee Santoro and Rosie Benham both of Beaverton; grandchildren Julie, Jeff & Tony Barnett, and Keri Burke & Brian Barnett; great-grandchildren Mckinsey Barnett, and Peyton & AJ Burke; and step great-grandchildren Michael & Olivia Burke.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, on Monday, April 11, 2011, in the Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR, followed by a fellowship and reception.
