Shirley Slattery was born in Grand Coulee, Washington to Katie Arndt and Max Graevell. She died peacefully at home in Portland, Oregon following a stroke at the age of 92. She married Richard Slattery in 1948 upon his return from Navy duty in World War II. They moved to Portland and raised their two children, Kathy and Ronald. They lived in North Portland in their first and forever house. She went to work at Montgomery Ward first as a switchboard operator, then elevator operator and finally as a merchandise specialist. When Wards closed its signature store, she retired to her home, garden, helping with the grandchildren (for fun) and lots and lots of travel with Richard. Her roses are still the envy of the neighborhood. She joined the Oregon Achaeological Society and enjoyed the monthly meetings, trips, and friendships. She is survived by her daughter Kathy and son Ronald (Sharon), grand, great grand and great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Richard, five siblings, Ella, Rudy, Bertha, Max and Frank, and her son-in-law Frank. Sherlie loved gardening, travel and most of all her family who will miss her very much.
