Ronald "Kirk" Bruce Kirkpatrick was born in Phillips, Nebraska on July 14, 1928, to Bruce and Vera (Wassell) Kirkpatrick and peacefully passed away at the age of 89 in Portland, Oregon on August 8, 2017. Kirk’s family moved to Northern California when he was 5 years old. He graduated from Live Oak Union High School where he was a four sport athlete in 1945 at the age of 16. He attended La Verne College in Southern California and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in 1949, where he met his wife Irene. They were married in 1947 at her family’s home in Tonasket, WA. After teaching in both California and Washington, he completed his Master’s Degree in 1961 at Washington State University. In 1962, Kirk & Irene moved to the Beaverton area where he taught at Walker Elementary School, Meadow Park Jr. High School, and for 25 years Aloha High School where he taught Math, English, and Driver’s Education. He was married for 60 years until his wife Irene’s passing on February 19, 2008. Kirk was an avid reader and collector. He loved spending time with his family, especially camping, going to garage sales, telling stories, and doing crossword puzzles. He was extremely intelligent and loved to share his knowledge and love of reading. He is survived by two brothers; Dale (& Helen) Kirkpatrick of Washington and Warren (& Martha) Kirkpatrick of California, and a sister; Dona (& Gerald) Stohlman of California. He is also survived by three sons and their wives; Bruce & Donna Kirkpatrick of Minnesota, Gayle & Marlene Kirkpatrick of Oregon, and Dean & Christy Kirkpatrick of Oregon, and four grandchildren; Sara, Ashlee, Ryan & Jessica. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Mason Kirkpatrick), a sister (Ardis Gaither), and his wife (Irene). A Celebration of Life Service will be held on September 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 10445 SW Canterbury Lane, Tigard, OR 97224. All are welcome to attend.
