Bob Haney was an ophthalmologist in Portland. He is a past president of the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology. He also served as an adjunct professor of ophthalmology at Oregon Health Sciences University. During the Vietnam conflict, he served as assistant chief of ophthalmology at Letterman Army Medical Center located on the Presidio of San Francisco, where he specialized in the treatment of traumatic eye injuries and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Born to Hance and Stella Haney on September 29, 1933 in Madison, Wisconsin, his family moved to Portland where his father was a long-time professor of internal medicine and administrator at OHSU. He and his identical twin brother Bill, also a retired ophthalmologist, both attended Grant High School and graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1951. The twins were members of Phi Kappa Psi at the University of Oregon, class of 1955. Bob graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School in 1958. He is a long-time member of the Portland Golf Club, where he and his brother Bill played in the annual member-guest tournament together for 40 consecutive years. Bob’s most recent hole-in-one occurred March 5, 2015 on the 4th hole at the Portland Golf Club (108 yards – 7 iron). In addition to his wife Audrey Reed and his brother Bill, he is survived by his brother John, sister Marilyn, son Hance, daughters Lisa and Kristin, stepson Erik and five beautiful grandchildren. Bob was dearly loved by his entire family and all who had the pleasure to meet him, he loved spending time with his family, fishing, walking outdoors and will be missed by all. Memorial services will be held at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary on Saturday August 5th at 4:00 pm.
