Robert William “Bob” Earls was born in Woodburn, Oregon on October 28, 1948 to Bill and Ruth Earls. He was the first born of 3 children. He had a brother Don (deceased) and sister Kathy. He was very responsible at the early age of 12 making sure everyone was taken care of following his parents’ divorce. He passed away suddenly at his Portland, Oregon home on June 24, 2020 at age 71.
Bob graduated from North Salem High School in 1966 where he played on the tennis team and was a member of the Sea Scouts. Following graduation, he entered into a sheet metal apprenticeship. He married his first wife right out of high school and started a family in the Kaiser area. The first born was Jeffrey, followed by Barbara, Steven and Bethany. He bought a farmhouse in Kaiser and had an apple orchard. He also was a volunteer Fireman for the Kaiser Fire Department. Bob worked with the Sheet Metal Workers Local 16 Union for several years while working for Atlas Sheet Metal and serving as a sheet metal instructor at Chemeketa Community College and Portland Community College in the evenings. From 1976 to 1982 he owned a fire screen business in Parkrose. He then opened up A & B Sheet Metal which he owned and operated until 2013 when he sold the company (DBA: A&B Sheet Metal Works), staying on as General Manager.
After divorcing in 1976, Bob met the love of his life in 1977, Lynda Quicksall, and they married in 1979. On May 18, 1980, the day of the Mt. St. Helens eruption, Bob and Lynda were baptized together. “LyndyPlum” lovingly cared for and helped raise Bob’s children. They added two more sons to the family, Derek and Brady. He had many interests including acoustic guitar, planes, boating, fishing, collecting guns, gardening, movies, and watching his kids play sports and other activities. He collected aviation and train related items. Bob was always the man to visit if you were ever in need of any sort of tools or help in fixing things.
He was a hardworking family man who loved and lived for his wife and six children. He spoiled his family with many fun trips over the years. He was extremely devoted and a selfless man who always put everyone else before himself. He was the rock of our family and always there when you needed him. We were so lucky and blessed to have him in our lives.
Bob is survived by his wife Lynda and his children, Jeff Earls (Jennifer), Barbara Tooze, Steve Earls (Patrice), Bethany Harris, Derek Earls, and Brady Earls. He will also be remembered by his sister Kathy Power (Dave) and his grandchildren Jessica, Halsea, Courtney, Peyton, Blake, Austin, and Trent.
Bob will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland, Oregon in a private family service.
A celebration of life will be held later this year as Covid-19 allows.
