Richard Edgar Wood, 66, of Gresham, Oregon, died March 10, 2011, at his home, of cancer.
Mr. Wood was born in 1944, in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1962.
Mr. Wood was an avid salmon fisherman as well as a duck, deer and elk hunter. He was a member of a multitude of fishing and hunting organizations. He also won national shooting competitions. Mr. Wood began fishing and hunting as a small child on Sauvie Island. He had a deep respect for animals and all wildlife. Mr. Wood shared his knowledge and skills with many friends and children.
Mr. Wood was a valued employee at Providence Portland Medical Center in materials management and purchasing. He recently retired after 35 years of dedicated service, with only two days of sick leave.
He is survived by his sister and brother, Patty Paulson (Don) and Harry Wood, both of Portland, niece Theresa Paulson Greer (Travis) of Seattle, nephew Dan Paulson (Chance) and their two children, of Portland.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela DiPietro Wood, a surgical nurse also at Providence.
A service will be held at Providence Portland Medical Center on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 11 am in the Providence Cancer Center Amphitheater.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Wood requested that donations are made to the Make a Wish Foundation of Portland.
