Farm life was very hard, but Dick made money by trapping and selling furs. He was a natural when it came to sports, and excelled at baseball.
Richard moved from the farm to Hoquiam, Washington to work in a plywood mill, and played semi-pro baseball.
On December 23, 1939 he married his lifelong partner, Carrie Severson. They moved to Aberdeen, Washington where Richard Jr. was born on April 11, 1941. They moved to St. Johns, Oregon where Keith was born on October 4, 1944.
Richard always took the family camping, fishing and hunting. They also traveled back to the farmlands of North and South Dakota, where family and friends lived.
Richard was a member of the Pipefitter trades for 68 years! Was married for 70 years! Richard and Carrie had been members of Augustana Lutheran Church since December 3, 1950.
His life was a testament to what happens when you work hard, play hard, and have a devoted life partner with God in your heart.
The family suggests contributions to Doernbecher's Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers.
