Matthew passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 23, 2021. His bright light will be greatly missed. He is survived by his mother, Cindy Ross; dad John King (his daughters Sara and Ashley); siblings, Stephanie Ross, Nicholas Ross, (his wife Randall, and their daughter Luna), Alison Ross, and Jacob Ross-King (his daughter, Anna, and son, Riley); grandmother, Marlene Trask; grandfather Jack King; aunts, an uncle, and several cousins. Matt also had a wealth of friends, some who considered him their brother. Matt was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Trask.
Matt was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and spent most of his life here. He graduated from David Douglas High School in 2006, then later spent a few years in Missouri where he worked in the restaurant business.
Matt was deeply loved by family and friends alike. He was kind and caring, a generous and gentle soul who loved animals and children. He had a great sense of humor accompanied by a very contagious laugh. His laugh was loud and joyous and filled everyone with so much happiness. Everyone who interacted with him, from his close family and friends, to acquaintances, was touched by his happy-go-lucky attitude and good cheer. Matt had a way of cheering up those who needed to smile.
Matthew had a vast amount of life experiences even though he left this earth at the young age of 33. He never hesitated to share his experiences if he thought they might help someone else.
Matt loved to play basketball with his friends and he loved to watch all sports on T.V. He was a long-time fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Mavericks.
We cherish our memories of Matthew and pray that they fill our hearts in this time of sorrow. His sweet spirit and laughter will live on through all those he touched. Matt will be forever missed and will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held in the future, date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Central City Concern.
