Mary Barbara Ryan Dougherty

She attended Holy Redeemer Grade School and Holy Child Academy High School. After graduating high school, Barbara attended the University of Portland and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Barbara worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Vincent's before children. She went back to school and updated her RN license after her children were older and then enjoyed many years as an Industrial Nurse, visiting industrial sites and ships.

On Sept 19, 1953 Barbara married Raymond Dougherty. They had 3 sons, Dan Dougherty (and wife Barbara) of Kenmore, Washington, Paul Dougherty of Hillsboro, Oregon, and John Dougherty (and wife Shelly) of Paradise Valley, Arizona.

After marriage, Barbara and Ray lived in Bremerton, WA, Portland, OR, Los Angeles, CA, and finally back to Portland in 1966.

Barbara cultivated friends in every location and maintained these friendships over the years, especially her nursing classmates. She was an avid Bridge player and a member of the Rose City Yacht Club and the American Association of University Women.

Charming and effervescent, Mary Barbara lit up every room. She always made you feel special.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Dougherty and is survived by her three sons, a brother, John Ryan of Portland Oregon, as well as four grandchildren, Jeff, Ashley, Jenna, and Olivia.

There will be a viewing on Friday July 22, 2011 starting at 4:00 PM at the family home. A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday July 23, 2011, 10:00 AM at The Madeleine Catholic Church. Interment will be at Mt Calvary Cemetery following the Funeral Mass. The Family would like for you to join them at the Family Home following the Burial.
