Leonard Walter Hauke

Leonard Walter Hauke was born in Portland Oregon on July 28, 1946 to Holden M and Irene (Samuelson) Hauke. He died at Providence Hospital on September 23, 2024. He was raised in NE Portland attending Sabin Grade School and Grant High School. He joined the Navy in 1964 and served on active duty until 1967, earning multiple medals. He attended Multnomah College, graduating with an AAS in Electronic Engineering Technology and then Oregon State University with a BS in Business Administration. Following graduation, he worked a few years for Westinghouse before beginning his long-time career at PGE.

In 1969, Leonard married Jill Suzanne Hesla at Augustana Lutheran Church. They met as students at Augustana while attending Grant and were high school sweethearts. In 1972, Leonard and Jill welcomed Brent Michael to the family and Tara Marie in 1974. Daniel Charles was born in 1980 completing the family group.

Leonard's life was filled with family activities and enjoyments that made him a leader with many followers. His sense of humor and his ability to share stories of his fishing and hunting trips with family and friends became legendary. He also played golf in local tournaments and with a team from PGE for many years. He was more than kind – he was loving and generous to all, especially his mother-in-law, Margaret. He could always be counted on to show up with his pickup truck when a family member or friend was moving. He worked and played hard.

Leonard is preceded in death by his brother, Michael H. Hauke. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 55 years, Jill; his children, Brent (Michelle), Tara (Josh) and Daniel; in-laws, Joyce, Lynn, Bob (Julie) and Robin; 4 grandchildren, Reagan, Abigail, Payton and Owen and 2 bonus grandchildren, Quinn and Macy; many nieces and nephews and cousins in Astoria and throughout Oregon.

A funeral service will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church on October 10, 2024 at 11am. The burial service will be at Willamette National Cemetery that afternoon at 2:30pm.
